I’ve been staring at our bathroom for a few months now thinking I wanted to do something new. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t exactly love it either. I needed a budget bathroom update.
The last refresh I did was about a year and a half ago and I needed that creative fix to feed my soul. And I’m not talking about food, although I could totally go for a plate of nachos right now. The only problem was, we had no money in our budget for any updates at the moment. You know those HGTV shows that share all the worst case scenarios during a renovation? That’s my kitchen renovation. Full of surprises and extra expenses. I feel like George Banks from Father of the Bride, one expense away from a mental breakdown. Don’t be surprised if you see me in a grocery store one day screaming about the number of hot dogs vs hot dog buns.
I wanted to update my bathroom, but didn’t have any money to spend. I knew two things never failed me: paint + rehoming decor. So I opened that hallway cabinet filled with junk and old paint cans, and I could just hear the Rocky theme song play as all the crap fell off the shelf onto my toes.
The first thing I did was remove the hardware from the cabinets. In an ideal world, I would’ve replaced them with something I truly loved. What I did instead, was grab a can of spray paint and gave my current hardware a quick facelift. I knew the gold would really make the black paint pop. Next, I turned on some good music, locked my family out of the room, and painted those cabinets. So they went from this..
To this..
Look I may be crazy, but I swear as soon as I finished my serotonin levels were through the roof. Such a simple update, yet a huge impact. Next I wanted to give some new life to that wall in the corner. See this art piece?
I really felt like she needed some friends with her on that lonely wall. So I went “shopping” all around my house. I had tunnel vision, and I couldn’t be stopped. No art piece was safe. Let me tell you something, moving a piece of decor (or furniture) from one room to the next is the cheapest way to give a space new life. Trust me on this, okay? Your bank account will thank me later. So I grabbed a ton of art from various rooms, grabbed a hammer, and got ready to put a bunch of holes into that wall.
What do you think? Not too shabby, eh? And all for a total of $0 spent. That paint, mixed with that new gallery wall, really gave my bathroom the refresh that I was craving. I have to say, it’s now my favorite view as I do my business. Notice anything else? I spray painted the mirrors too; brownie points for those of you that noticed. There is nothing that paint can’t do. Speaking of which, if you missed my post last year on how I painted that backsplash, you can read it here.
